Farpointe Data Rangers Smart Card Reader

Introducing a long-range access control ID solution—Farpointe Data’s Ranger® receivers and transmitters—for use with CEM Systems’ AC2000 access control and security management systems.

Farpointe Data’s Ranger® receivers and transmitters provide a long-range radio frequency identification (RFID) solution that features exceptionally long read ranges—up to 200 feet (61 m).

Belfast, UK, 12 April, 2021 — Johnson Controls announces the introduction of a long-range access control ID solution—Farpointe Data’s Ranger® receivers and transmitters—for use with CEM Systems’ AC2000 access control and security management systems.

Ranger is a long-range radio frequency identification (RFID) solution that features exceptionally long read ranges—up to 200 feet (61 m)—making it the ideal RFID component for AC2000 systems controlling access through perimeter gates, vehicle barriers, building entrances, and more.

Operating at the globally accepted 433-MHz frequency, Ranger receivers and transmitters are available in two- and four-channel models, allowing one transmitter to be used at up to four access points. Additionally, with no line-of-sight required between receiver and transmitter, receivers can be installed indoors to protect against tampering. However, receivers and transmitters are perfectly suited for outdoor use, as both are IP67-rated for outstanding resistance to weathering.

“One of the highlights of Ranger is its flexibility,” said Philip Verner, Regional Sales Director, EMEA, CEM Systems. “Ranger transmitters can be embedded with a smartcard or proximity chip that allows them to be used in presentation mode with traditional readers,” Verner added. “For example, this functionality gives users the ability to access a parking gate by pressing a button on the transmitter, then access a front entrance by presenting the same transmitter to a traditional card reader near the door, just like they would a card,” Verner concluded.

To add to its versatility, Ranger’s four-channel receiver features an adjustable read-range dial within its enclosure allowing it to be configured, right in the field, to the specific needs of the access control application. The same receiver can also be fitted with an external antenna to extend its read range well beyond 200 feet.

Fully compatible with all AC2000 security management systems, Ranger adds a beneficial long-range solution to the CEM Systems line of access control components.
